Gravity Well
Gravity Wells are a game mechanic on Horizon's End.
A gravity well is generated either by a static body of mass, such as a star or planet, or by a ship or NPC nest.
Gravity well strength
If a Starship is within a gravity well of strength greater than the ship's Jump Strength, that ship cannot jump until it exits that gravity well.
All planets & stars have a well strength approaching 1,000,000.
Disruptors are targeted gravity wells, activated with /disrupt <ship>.
Interdiction Wells are Multiblocks available only on Interdiction Ships, and are capable of creating artificial gravity wells. (Toggled with /well)
All Tech 1 Capital & Subcapital player Warships (With the exception of the Starfighter, which has a Disrupt strength of 0) have a Disrupt strength of 1, while Cruisers have a Disrupt strength of 2, and Battlecruisers 3.
The Interdictor Gunship has a well strength of 1, Interdictor Corvette has a well strength of 2 and the Interdictor Destroyer has a well strength of 3. All other Tech 2 ships (Excluding Logistics Ships; these have a Disrupt strength of 0) follow the same pattern as Tech 1 ships, with Gunship through Destroyer having a Disrupt strength of 1, while (Missile) Cruisers have a Disrupt strength of 2 and Lancer Battlecruisers 3.
NPC Loci also have a well strength of 1.
Natural Well Sizes
All stars, and Horizon, have a gravity well with a radius of 1800.
All planets have a gravity well with a radius of 1000.
NPC loci generate a gravity well with a radius of 1500.
Alien "Watcher" NPCs, Teraliths and Verdoliths spawned by the nest generate a gravity well with a radius of 2400. Arborealiths generate a large gravity well of around 3000 blocks.
Defunct Mechanics
This Mechanic is no longer in use with the advent of Disruptors for non-interdiction-class ships, which use a different set of numbers than this. That being said the graph is useful should the need arise for something similar.
Artificial Well Sizes
Ship well radius is determined by a formula.
Civilian Ships
((3000 / sqrt(12000)) * sqrt(block count)) / 2
Warships
(3000 / sqrt(12000)) * sqrt(block count)
Starfighters, Interceptors, Shuttles, Speeders, and Platforms are incapable of creating a gravity well.
The equation can be visualized using this graph:
