"The Vegapocalypse" is a term used to refer to a hypothetical major military conflict, involving Vega attacking a majority of the rest of Horizon's End.

History[edit | edit source]

The term was coined by NovaManGood2110 of the Horizon Federation in the late days of the Horizon Federation-RentDueYesterday War. NovaManGood2110 describes,

It started when I was schitzo [sic] ranting about an upcoming war to adelie
because I saw vega ramping up war production and pushing combat related updates

The term itself is a direct reflection of the experiences of the Activity Crisis. That the involvement of Vega, backed by advantageous combat updates such as the introduction supercapitals would ruin the server. The term was thus commonly used as a counterweight whenever the question of combat came up and supercapitals themselves where viewed with a great deal of scrutiny and suspicion.

While no server-scale conflict involving Vega has occurred since the coining of this term (AssassinXX of Vega states, "saying it already happened would be misinformation"), some players on the server, including NovaManGood2110 himself, believe that the Ilios Alliance-Vask Authority War constituted the closest thing to a "Vegapocalypse" to occur on Horizon's End in 2024, as Vask Authority was given substantial material backing (and one singular case of direct military intervention) from Vega to prosecute war against the Ilios Alliance, who composed the majority of the server's colonists and privateers. The Vega-Ekatera War is also not considered a "vegapocalypse", in part due to the server's overwhelming support for Vega's side in the conflict.

The fear of such an event is in itself is not unreasonable, as the Andromedan Republic-Vega War caused activity levels to plummet on Star Legacy. Vega has later admitted that their intent in this war was to make the server so unplayable that it would necessitate a total reset of the server, as they considered the server to be unfixable without one due to years of bug exploits ruining the player-economy. Vega has since changed drastically however, with much of their core playerbase from 2019 having since left the server. Horizon's End is also in a much more balanced state than Star Legacy, thanks to the hard work of a much larger development team.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

In modern times, the threat of a "Vegapocalypse" is not held to be as prominent as it was in early 2024, on account of the Long Peace. Instead, the term is typically used in a humorous fashion, and is often parodied by other nations (ex. "Novapocalypse", "Cortesiapocalypse", etc).

Solesey of Vega states, "vegapocalypse is just a thing you guys invented and then we started pretending it was real to scare you guys".
