Combat Tagging is a mechanic on Horizon's End.

Terminology

In this guide:

An Enemy is defined as: A player from a nation with NONE, UNFRIENDLY, or ENEMY relation with your nation or a player who is not in a nation

Mechanics

There are two types of combat tags, PVP combat tag, which lasts for 5 minutes, and NPC combat tag, which lasts for 2 minutes 30 seconds.

Your current combat tag, as well as the time remaining can be seen on the scoreboard. NPC combat tag shows the time in orange text, PVP combat tag shows the time remaining in red text.

Triggering

Starting a station siege

Being in the gravity well generated by a warship greater than or equal to 1000 blocks in size piloted by an enemy. Both you and the enemy will be combat tagged.

An enemy enters your gravity well when you are flying a warship greater than or equal to 1000 blocks in size. Both you and the enemy will be combat tagged

An enemy enters your gravity well when you are flying a warship less than 1000 blocks in size, PVP combat tag will only be triggered for both parties if the enemy's ship is less than or equal to 3999 blocks.

If an enemy or a player in a nation with NEUTRAL relation to your nation fires a shot that connects with your ship, PVP tag will be triggered for both players.

If you are on foot, outside of a safezone, and an enemy is piloting a ship greater than or equal to 1000 blocks in size within 500 blocks of you, PVP combat tag will be triggered only for the player on foot.

If you are on foot, and an enemy or player in a nation with NEUTRAL relation to your nation hits you with a melee or blaster attack you will get combat tagged.

NPC combat tag is triggered whenever your ship is hit by a shot from an NPC, or whenever you shoot an NPC ship.

Maintaining

Combat tag is maintained if:

any of the above conditions is true

An enemy is piloting a warship greater than or equal to 1000 blocks in size within 1000 blocks of you on foot or in a ship.

An enemy is piloting a warship less than 1000 blocks within 1000 blocks of you, only if you're piloting a ship less than or equal to 3999 blocks in size.

While in a trade city, combat tag can only be maintained by pvp attacks

Limitations

Combat tag prevents entering safezones with a warship. Civilian ships such as freighters can enter safezones while tagged. If your civilian ship enters a safezone while combat tagged, it can no longer take damage from other ships while in the safezone. (PVP tag only)

While in a safezone, you can be attacked on foot by other players while combat tagged. (PVP tag only)

Combat tag disables the use of ship drills, decomposers, and ship factories.

Combat tag prevents releasing ships, if you try to release a ship while combat tagged, the ship will instead unpilot.

While combat tagged, you cannot enter or exit planets more than once every 2 minutes. (PVP tag only)

Combat tag prevents buying from the bazaar.

Combat tag prevents the use of /suicide.

Combat tag prevents creating new space stations.

Exiting combat tag

A combat tag can be lost by either letting the time run down (2mins, 30 seconds for NPC, 5 mins for player) without being shot or proximity tagged by an enemy for the entire time, or dying.
