Horizons end is a sandbox with both PvP and PvE, also lots of base building, economy, industry, designing. There is sieging for deepspace regions (check other parts of the wiki for more info), PvP is enabled everywhere but safezones, all trading posts (often referred to as OST's or trade cities/TC's by players) are safezones and Asteri is a safezone system so no PvP there, perfect for those who can't cope with attacks and only came here to play for building/PvE.

Daily commissions are the best method they give 5-15k daily per commission depending on your streaking level for up to 3 daily quests. Start a quest at an OST using the commission droid, see current quests with /journal. Hostile spawns vary per planet and none spawn in OST or near mob defenders. The streak doesn't ever get reset only grown higher each step.

You can earn xp from numerous sources such as /achievements (things like visiting planets for the first time and mining X amount of ore), buying xp using credits with /buyxp which you can calculate how many you need until your designated level with /calcxp 10. Delivering crates earns a small amount of xp per crate, completing daily quests earns decent xp. Sinking AI ships also earns XP but some are dangerous to fight against so be wary if you go down this path, if you want to try then go for transit line ships because most don't shoot back.

Latest revision as of 21:10, 22 June 2026

You just joined Horizons End and you're clueless what to do after the tutorial! Here's your short guide with a map and image helpers at the bottom.

What is Horizon's End, exactly?

Horizons end is a open world space sandbox with both PvP and PvE combat, base building, economy, industry, starship engineering, politics, and more. PvP is generally enabled in non-safe zone regions; however, if you're new you should have new player protection (/checkprotection) which disables combat by default. This goes both ways; attacking another player will get that protection revoked- so use this time wisely and mind your business!

After that protection expires, you're liable to be attacked by pirates unless in a safe zone (the entire star system of Asteri, as well as active Trade Cities, called NPC OSTs or Player TCs) so be prepared for fight or flight in the future.

The game is divided between different regions, including star systems, planets, and territories (see the image map).

As you level up you will unlock larger ships at level 10, 20, 40, and beyond. Larger ships tend to be more powerful, at the cost of typically being slower and vulnerable without proper precautions.

How to start

You'll need your own ship, first of all! Buy either a Vesta for general exploration (200c) or Ozark for mining (1000c). If the Sky Dog Pirates pushed you through the tutorial phase too fast, this video can walk you through basic flight mechanics and starship operation.

Split your chetherite fuel between the hyperdrive hoppers; hyperspace jumps cost 2 chetherite per hopper per jump, so you will be using 4 chetherite per jump. This video has additional information about hyperdrive operation and navigation; it is currently outdated because you won't be able to see yourself on the map even when holding a clock. Use your sidebar to get your bearings instead, for now.

Regardless of what you end up doing on Horizon's End, if you want to progress, you will need credits. These are the universally-accepted currently that handles starship purchases, starship construction, leveling up, buying materials and resources from players on the bazaar, and paying players directly for goods and services.

How to earn credits as a beginner

Commissions

Daily commissions are the best method they give 5-15k daily per commission depending on your streaking level for up to 3 daily quests. Start a quest at an OST using the commission droid, see current quests with /journal. Hostile spawns vary per planet and none spawn in OST or near mob defenders. The streak doesn't ever get reset only grown higher each step.

Voting

server voting is optional but it's good too and gives chetherite (starship fuel) as an additional gain.

Crating

Buying then selling crates between OST's gives profit per crate, the larger your ship (in block count) the more crates your ship can hold so this isn't good for the lower levels but it is good once you reach around level 20. You can only place crates on sticky piston heads and those must have space between each one.

Fuel and market

If you run out of fuel while doing your tasks there are purple colored asteroids in each system that have chetherite ore on them and also you can buy chetherite from the player market /bazaar. /bazaar shops are regional but you may view (view only not purchase) global stock by clicking on a button at the top of the /bazaar gui.

Trade City <--- link to the wiki page for a list of OST's. Some of the new osts are shown on the map below in the yellow square deepspace regions but these are unsafe for new players and you need a significantly large amount of crops and ores to be able to make it worthwhile for a beginner. Planter Harvester Mining Laser

AI killing

type "/encounter status" for a list of upcoming AI ship spawns, they also spawn randomly around systems depending on system difficulty. Transit line ships are unarmed and give XP and credits.

Leveling up

You can earn xp from numerous sources such as /achievements (things like visiting planets for the first time and mining X amount of ore), buying xp using credits with /buyxp which you can calculate how many you need until your designated level with /calcxp 10. Delivering crates earns a small amount of xp per crate, completing daily quests earns decent xp. Sinking AI ships also earns XP but some are dangerous to fight against so be wary if you go down this path, if you want to try then go for transit line ships because most don't shoot back.

Tips

  • As a new player you have new player protection (the golden star next to your name) which applies to all of the main systems only, it doesn't make you invulnerable but it's against the server rules to attack.
  • Left click to open your ship computer settings which includes redetection (for ship edits), changing of ship class/type, ownerships, lock, naming.
  • After a ship sinks it blows up and the wreck will regenerate where it sank after 5 minutes with most of what it was before it sank so don't park your ships inside blown up areas.
  • Switch between creative and survival using /server survival and /server creative. On creative you can claim a basic plot for 100x100 space to mess around with.
  • You can save blueprints of your builds (works cross server between creative and survival) and then use a "ship factory" to print them on survival so there's no manually building large things. You will need the materials or credits.
  • Each time you make an edit to your ship which includes placing and removing crates you will need to left click on your starship computer (blue flashy block) and redetect in order to pilot with those new changes made.
  • Don't park touching structures, this is the most common mistake newbs make when crating because they need to redetect and instead it will detect the nearby buildings and other ships if it's touching them so leave plenty of space when parking in places.
  • These are the materials required for a full set of power armour along with the mainly used modules: 22 titanium ingots, 12 sea lanterns, 44 aluminum, 17 glass pane, 1 firework rocket, 1 feather.

Traveling

Cruise and direct control (dc)

Always hold the controller (clock item) while flying it's your only way to pilot, while holding: Q to turn left, F to turn right there's also a steering wheel on starter vessels for that, there's a cruise sign in starter vessels but you can also type it with /cruise. Holding the controller and shifting will nudge you in that direction you're facing. /dc which means direct control will take you into a different mode of flying where you can scroll hotbar slots so the clock goes in 1-9 where 1 is reverse, 2 is stationary, 3-9 are forward speeds, A strafes left, D strafes right, S goes UP, W goes down.

Hyperspace jumping

For long distance space travel it's recommended to use hyperspace. Hyperspace jumping is initiated with /jump. For example you can jump to coordinates with /jump 5000 5000 (don't include Y level), /jump Lioda (a planet name), /jump Regulus_To_Sirius_East (a warp gate name, if you start typing it in chat and press tab key to cycle through the options it will autofill the rest of the name in. Use the image map and the survival dynmap to navigate your path between planets and systems.

You can also use routes with "/route add (destination name)" and then "/jump auto" for each time you exit hyperspace jump until you reach your destination. "/route clear" to reset.

Location, planets and gravity wells that block hyperspace jumping

Your current location is always on your contacts bar to the right of your screen. Hyperspace jumping gets blocked by gravity wells which can be seen as gray circles around stars and planets on the dynmap so if your path is blocked by one you will be taken out of hyperspace and you'll need to move out of it away from the nearby planet/star to free your path. Same goes for exiting a planet you will need to go 1000 blocks away from a planet to get outside of the gravity well before you can jump otherwise it will block you.

The direction you enter a planet from the outside matters, it will take you N/E/S/W inside that planet.

Leave planet by going straight up past Y380, this will take you back into orbit.

The black lines on the map are connection points (hyperspace gates) between systems. The region names are Ward, Breach, Monolith, Spine, Fracture. You can claim and live inside Asteri, Ilios, Regulus, Sirius. Trench is a mining system with no new player protection.

Claiming your homes:

Using credits (server currency) you can claim predefined territories on planets by starting your own settlement (Most cost too much to afford on your first day) and also make custom sized circular claims in space for space stations. If you want somewhere protected and cheap it's recommended to make a small starter station just to hold your belongings in while you start off, you only need less than 5000c to have a decently sized area in space. Wiki is very useful but it's not instruction friendly so here's how to use the wiki:

Search bar at the top for the thing you're looking for, it's not always categorized so there will be pages like "xp guide" that don't show in the "guides category".

Images, especially for multiblocks can often contain multiple like a slideshow you can click on the arrows left and right if there are any to cycle. The ones on multiblock pages show the different building layers of the multiblocks.
