The Fluid Transfer system is a gameplay system that allows the storage, transfer, and usage of fluid resources between machines. Fluid transfer is one of the 4 main transport mechanics, the others being Power, Item Transport, and Grid Energy.

Mechanics

A basic fluid network, obtaining gas using a Gas Collector, and unloading the canisters into fluid tanks using a Canister Unloader.

Unlike power and item transport, fluid transfer does not make use of Extractors, fluid ports serve as both outputs, and inputs. Fluid is pushed out of output ports, if there is room in the connected fluid network. Fluid coming from the outputs of multiblocks is moved into an internal storage, which each pipe contributes capacity towards. Multiblock inputs connected to the network each take from the internal storage.

Flow

The rate at which fluid is added to multiblocks is dependent on the flow accessible to the multiblock input port that is being added to. Flow is determined by the minimum pipe size along the path between multiblock outputs, and the input. The Fluid Valve blocks flow if not powered, blocking transfer to downstream multiblock inputs. Flow values can be viewed by holding a Wrench.

Flow is measured in Liters per second.

Leaking

Open fluid pipes that are not paired on one end by a junction, or another pipe, will leak fluid. Depending on the properties of the leaked fluid, it may be hazardous. [Upcoming]
