Mercenary Contracts are unofficial tasks players will do like hiring one another. The mercenary contracts are typically most visible when you have 2 people from the same nation fighting on opposite sides of a conflict both hired for money.
Players may typically say before a fight:
"I have a mercenary contract on you, so your ship will get sunk"
Other variations may exist.
