RentDueYesterday or RDY was a major pirating nation on Horizon's End, active in the latter third of 2023. The nation was founded by K9_Caper and FellOffBridge to be a completely aggressive, no-strings-attached pirate nation, and is widely considered to be the predecessor to Vask Authority.

History

Following a lack of activity in their current nation of Arimfea, K9_Caper and FellOffBridge jointly founded RDY to get away from politics to make unrestricted piracy easier. However, just days into the nation's existence, then-leader K9_Caper got cold feet and left the nation to join Imperial Nova, leaving FellOffBridge to lead for the remainder of RDY's existence. FellOffBridge would recruit more like-minded pirates like AdelieXY, who would later become co-leader of the nation.

RentDueYesterday gained considerable size for a nation of its nature, being regarded as the second large "true" pirate nation on HE (after early Echelon). On 6 October 2023, RDY formed an alliance with Vega, after the leaders of the two nations, FellOffBridge and Vandrayk became good friends. This granted RDY's considerable fighting force access to technology and ship designs comparable to that of Vega, who were by most measures the most technologically and militarily advanced nation on the server at the time. This combination made RDY an extremely potent piracy force, to the point that other nations felt it necessary to create the largest alliance in server history, the Horizon Federation, to combat it.

RentDueYesterday's campaign of piracy caused considerable upset among the colonist playerbase of Horizon's End, leading to reduced server activity, and mounting calls for an urgent solution to the conflict. RDY member GenBukkit considered himself part of a problem, and seceded from the nation in October 2023. After certain leaders of the Horizon Federation threatened to stop their members playing the server, Vega dropped out of the war on 7 December 2023. One month later, suffering from boredom among key members of the nation, RDY leader FellOffBridge handed ownership of the nation over to pqio on 8 January 2024; pqio reformed the nation into the second iteration of the Andurian Federation, marking the end of RentDueYesterday.

Legacy

RentDueYesterday's reign is considered a blemish on the server's history due to both the involvement of Vega, who sought retribution against many Horizon Federation members for their technical defeat at the hands of its predecessor, the Alliance of Regulus, and the relentless nature of the attacks carried out by RDY.

RDY is often used as a meter-stick against which other player groups perceived to denigrate server health are measured, and is considered by many to be the archetypical example of pointless combat.
yodabird19, a major participant in the Horizon Federation, said on 8 December 2024:

RDY especially did a fantastic job of illustrating to everybody just how pointless and interminable war and combat is on this server, [in my opinion]
it doesn't matter whether you fight back or don't, nothing you can do (ingame) will actually bring a war any closer to ending
why would anybody log on to fight a war they neither asked for nor can do anything to end?

Aschonia

Aschonia belonged to AdelieXY in the southwest corner of Vask, and was RDY's real capital and base of operations, where most of RDY's items and fleets were housed, it later seceded from RDY in a fake defection to Imperial Nova as AdelieXY decided to become a spy for RDY and Vega.

Politics

RentDueYesterday only allied itself with Vega and TriadCorp, the latter of which was mostly an extension of RDY, any other nation was seen as a target for RDY and Vega to attack. RDY only offered surrender under special and embarrassing terms as to discourage anyone from doing so. RDY's alliance with Vega allowed its shipbuilders FellOffBridge and AdelieXY to greatly improve their designs, resulting in the first nation to have ships considered somewhat comparable to Vega. This large gap in ship quality, with aggressive, skilled pilots and numbers allowed RDY to bully most of the server in combat, going as far as launching ground attacks on the capital cities of members of the Horizon Federation.

RDY had no real politics by design, as it was never meant to get along with the rest of the nations on HE, seeking only combat.
