Planet mining

Planet Mining typically refers to the act of using a starship equipped with starship drills to mine out large swaths of material from a planet. Before mining lasers were added and large quantities of asteroids were distributed, this was a common method of gathering vast sums of resources. This has also been used on planets such as Qatra to extract mass amounts of sand, leaving vast scars across the planet's surface.
