This is a list of common ship building questions.

What do the different ship Multiblocks do?

  • Hyperdrive:
    • Allows ship to jump into Hyperspace.
    • Higher tiers increase hyperspace travel speed.
  • Navigation Computers:
    • Allows ship to use the /jump command.
    • Higher tiers increase the jump range of the ship.
    • Without a navigation computer, ships can still take hyperspace beacons but cannot /jump.
    • Shuttles can /jump without a navigation computer, but their range is halved. (To 9,000 blocks)

Why aren't my guns firing?

  • Forward-facing ship weapons require a thruster to determine what the "front" of the ship is, else they will default to North (at the time of piloting) as the front of the ship. Add a thruster.
  • The weapon you are trying to use is disabled by default. (See default weapon balancing values.)
  • The weapon you are trying to use is disabled for your ship class. (See balancing values for your ship class.)
  • Your ship does not have enough weapon capacitor/power.
  • For light weapons:
    • Take your ship's block count. If the block count would be less than 500, assume your block count is 500.
    • Take the cube root.
    • Multiply by 3000.
    • If your ship is not a warship, multiply by 0.7. (See your starship type's powerOverrider for the exact value.)
    • If your ship is oversized (larger than the maximum block count for its class), multiply by 0.5.
    • Divide by 6.
    • Divide by the weapon's firePowerConsumption, or the weapon's firePowerConsumption on a certain class.
    • Your ship can fire a number of weapons of this type equal to the calculated value, or the value of maxPerShot, whichever is lower, whenever you fire your light weapons.
  • For heavy weapons:
    • Take your ship's block count. If the block count would be less than 500, assume your block count is 500.
    • Take the cube root.
    • Multiply by 3000.
    • If your ship is not a warship, multiply by 0.7. (See your starship type's powerOverrider for the exact value.)
    • If your ship is oversized (larger than the maximum block count for its class), multiply by 0.5.
    • Divide by the weapon's firePowerConsumption, or the weapon's firePowerConsumption on a certain class.
    • Your ship can fire a number of weapons of this type equal to the calculated value, or the value of maxPerShot, whichever is lower, whenever you fire your heavy weapons.
