Base Defense Platforms are starships detected into the ground. They are not intentional features and are considered oversights, but they do see use in combat, and are legal.
'''Base Defense Platforms''' or '''BDPs''' are immobile starships which sacrifice movement for the protection of an area shield.

They are known for being popularized by [[Vortexion]], who was known for being able to build the strongest of BDPs.

Base Defense Platforms or BDPs are immobile starships which sacrifice movement for the protection of an area shield.

Specifications

BDPs can be detected as any Starship class, but are most often frigates or destroyers for the extra ship strength and firepower. (Or more rarely, glass cannon ships such as Black Ops Frigates to take advantage of their high burst damages) BDPs can be used in space or on planet.

Construction

Area shields consist of the warship, the outside armor, and the area shield core, which contains the area shield.

Outside of the piloted blocks are armor blocks within the area shield's radius that are not detected as part of the ship. These blocks prevent attacking ships from damaging the piloted warship's shields. These can be normal ship hull materials such as terracotta, slabs, and stairs, or non-pilotable blocks with higher blast resistances, such as obsidian.

Countering

Area shields can be bypassed by thermal detonators (But only once the Starship's Particle Shields break), meaning they can be defeated if the attacking force can get a player on foot to break the armor around the warship while it is under constant fire.

ArcaAeterna - A base defense platform system, consisting of four Frigates, surrounded by the burned husks of several AI starships.

The area shield can also be broken using Ion Turrets or the Doomsday Device, which are both capable of completely draining an area shield in a few minutes.
