Base Defense Platforms or BDPs are immobile starships which sacrifice movement for the protection of an area shield.
Specifications
BDPs can be detected as any warship class, but are most often frigates or destroyers for the extra ship strength and firepower. BDPs can be used in space or on planet.
Construction
Area shields consist of the warship, the outside armor, and the area shield core, which contains the area shield.
Outside of the piloted blocks are armor blocks within the area shield's radius that are not detected as part of the ship. These blocks prevent attacking ships from damaging the piloted warship. These can be normal ship hull materials such as terracotta, slabs, and stairs, or unpilotable blocks with higher blast resistance such as obsidian.
Countering
Area shields can be bypassed by thermal detonators, meaning they can be defeated if the attacking force can get a player on foot to break the armor around the warship.
The area shield can also be broken using Arsenal Missiles, or cracked conventionally by dealing enough damage with conventional warship weapons.
