The Republic of Carthage (or just "Carthage") is a large nation on Horizon's End. Carthage specializes in building and trade, with their city's bazaar hosting the widest selection of items of any on the server. Carthage is for the most part a city-state, with the nation's population and activity heavily concentrated in their trade city of Carthage, which is among the most active and largest settlements on Horizon's End. In server politics, Carthage is known to take a neutral stance towards conflict, hence commonly referred to by its citizens as "Space Switzerland".

Carthage

The city of Carthage is a Trade City located on Garf Island, Lioda and led by WatchmanPhileo. It is the oldest player-made Trade City on the server, achieving Trade City status on 23 November 2022. Carthage is the server's most active center of commerce, selling a majority of items obtainable in the game on their bazaar. The city of Carthage offers buildings to both members and non-members of the nation for lease coupled with access to city infrastructure.

The build style of Carthage consists of a combination of large, modern buildings, as well as more detailed industrial structures. Being built on Lioda, Carthage is situated atop an uneven cliffside; as a result, Carthage has many winding and sloped roads, as well as extensive artificial terrain.

Carthage occasionally hosts events such as horse racing tournaments for the public and weekly discord parties for their members.

Additional Settlements

Querencia

Querencia is a settlement owned by TeamsterCon, located directly south of Carthage. It is connected to Carthage by road. It contains a few structures from its previous Arimfean occupation.

San Dorio

San Dorio is a settlement owned by Oriomium, located directly southwest of Carthage. It consists of a few beachy islands and can be easily accessed via speeder.

History

Before Horizon's End

Before the end of StarLegacy and the launch of Horizon's End, many members of what is now Carthage were part of the nation Aegea, led by WatchmanPhileo. The nation of Aegea, similar to Carthage today, was centered around a trade city called Atlantis.

After StarLegacy shut down, the members of Aegea decided to return on Horizon's End and build a new trade city.

Echelon Caliphate

For approximately its first year, rather than being an independent nation, the city of Carthage was a member of the Echelon Caliphate, the most powerful nation on the server at the time.

While a member of Echelon, Carthage gained trade city status on 23 November 2022, becoming the first player-made city on the server to do so.

Due to Carthage declared independence from the Echelon Caliphate on 6 February 2023, establishing the Republic of Carthage.
